Bella returned home from hunting by herself. It had been prosporous; she'd even caught a mountain lion. But it was late at night now, almost four in the morning. She was a little worn out from the fight, she had to admit. The thing had been clever and extremely strong, but after a ten minute fight, Bella had gotten the better of it, and it died. Bella shot through the forest, chuckling as she remembered her fight. She stumbled to a stop as she came to the house-- her house. All the lights in the little cottage were out, so Edward must have been with the family. Bella sighed. She had just wanted to hang out with her husband tonight, but apparantly, that wasn't going to happen. She continued out of the forest, away to her homey little cottage, to the expanse of the Cullen house. She smiled and knocked lightly on the door before letting herself in.
It was silent. She heard no one. That was strange. Ususally, they never left at night. Where could they be. "Alice? Edward? Carlisle?" she called out, loud enough so they could hear. She checked every room in the house. No one. She sat on the couch, puzzled, and sat her chin in her hand. Where were they?! She sighed.

Edward had been sitting at the comfy cottage for a couple of hours, while Bella had gone out hunting. But he was growing a bit bored just sitting there trying to keep himself from boredom. Giving a small sigh he decided to see if there was anyone around at the much larger house, he figured there should be someone there. He was already over the little stream before he finished thinking about going. It was only a couple hours past midnight so he wasn’t expecting the quiet house when he pushed through the sliding door. He furrowed his brow when he didn’t hear anyone around but continued to walk through the house figuring someone would show up at some point. Deciding that he’d stick around for a little while seeing if someone would show up and keep him company while Bella was out hunting, he headed to the room that was basically a library. Stepping into one of the large upstairs rooms he plucked a book of the shelf and settled down in the back of the room behind a shelf and started reading the book. Hearing a noise down stairs Edward closed the book and checked the time, it was almost four, he’d really lost track of time.
He smiled when he heard the voice that called his name. Recognizing Bella’s voice immediately, he replaced the book to its proper place and made his way down the stairs, something that didn’t take very long. He crossed the room quickly to where Bella was sitting on the couch with a smile. Edward leaned over the back of the couch and placed a kiss on Bella’s cheek before taking a seat next to her. Bella felt a jolt through her skin where Edward was suddenly kissing her cheek. How hadn't she heard him? Oh, well, he was here with her now, and it no longer mattered-- she wrapped his arms around his waist as he sat next to her and kissed him on the lips. Finally, she thought she'd better talk to him. A greeting would be nice. Darn her easily distracted mind. "Hi," she said, her voice ringing through the empty house. This was still bothering her. Why weren't they here? "How was your day?" she inquired, tracing little designs all over the soft fabric of his shirt. "I went hunting. I caught a mountain lion." She flashed him a cheesy smile. She let her eyes wander around the house. There was the pale furniture. The big glass windows. The piano in the corner. She loved that old thing. She had so many memories from it-- old, suckish human memories, as well as clean, fresh, vampire memories. "Do you know where everyone is?" she asked, eyes still on the piano.

Edward didn’t spend or rather waist any time moving from behind the couch so that he could join her on it. He’d been away from her too long today and was anxious to have his arms around her. When he sat down next to her and she wrapped her arms around his waist he placed one around her shoulders as he welcomed the kiss. Edward felt better, more relaxed when she was in his arms, he was much more content now then he’d been while he was reading about some historical thing in the library room. He smiled at her when she spoke, “It was rather uneventful, but pretty good.”
Edward told her. When she informed him that she’d caught a mountain lion, “I’m jealous, I haven’t caught on in a couple of weeks. Did it fight much?” he asked her, he liked when they were difficult to take down. He watched her eyes travel over the house, it was odd not to see anyone around, but everything looked the same, it was all in the same place. Edward smiled when he noticed she lingered on the piano, the same one he’s been playing for years, it held lots of memories for him. “No idea, I was expecting them to be hear to keep me company until you returned her. But they weren’t here when I arrived an hour or so ago, I don’t know where they would go.” he said pulling his brow together slightly at the question, someone was always home.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Bella smiled at him when he asked if the creature gave up a fight. "It did, actually. Well, it tried, anyway. But it was no match for me. I'm sure if you'd have been there, you would've been a worried wreck," she joked. Sometimes Edward seemed to forget how strong she was in this life. He acted as if she was a human still, sometimes. He was still always trying to protect her and keep her out of harm's way if he could. Of course, not much could ever hurt her anymore, and the only force that COULD hurt her was far away in a city called Volterra. And they would be coming. Soon.
Bella decided not to think about that. Even though Edward couldn't read her thoughts, he could read her face, which even in this life showed what she was thinking a little too well for her taste. "Oh, well," she sighed, "I guess there's nothing that can be done about it. They'll show up eventually." They sat there in silence for a few moments. Bella just loved spending time with him so much that they didn't even have to talk for her to be happy. Then she broke the silence. "I'm kind of scared, Edward. About Nessie and that baby. Maybe... maybe we should... I don't know. Get her to get rid of it? Give it up?" she whispered, so the only person in the entire world who could hear was Edward. She never wanted anyone to know the dark thoughts she had about getting rid of the baby. "I don't want to lose her, or Jacob. Or you or Alice or... anyone. The Volturi are coming, Edward. We have to do something!"
A few minutes later; "I'm a terrible person"

Edward laughed, he knew how feisty a mountain lion could get, it being his favourite animal to hunt, “I’m sure I probably would have been”
he still had that habit of being the protective vampire, even if Bella was a vampire now, and has been for a few years. It wasn’t something he found easily to give up; he got very defensive when Bella was involved in anything, even thoughts. Those he knew he had to watch because a lot of people didn’t know he could hear what they were thinking. Edward also knew she could take care of herself, now, but he’d still without thinking place himself between her and anything that was going to cause her harm. This included the Volturi, which he’s done a couple of times before. He rid the royal vampire family from his mind, the mention of their name always made him tenser then what he normally was and the last thing he wanted was for Bella to know he was thinking about them. He didn’t want to worry her with his own concerns. “I’m sure they will, just seems odd.” he said brushing it off deciding not to worry about his family and the absence, he’d know what had happened as soon as someone stepped inside the large house. He didn’t mind the silence between them, it was always a natural and comfortable one, it always was. His eyes locked on hers with concern as she spoke, he was having similar thoughts, though he’d had the same ones surrounding Nessie. “So am I Bella. Even if we talk to her about giving it up, she won’t listen. Jacob and her are attached already.” he said softly, his voice not any louder then what hers had been. “You’re not going to lose anyone, I won’t allow that. We’ll figure something out, soon. Like we did when they came when Nessie was born.” he told her trying to sooth her some. He took her face in his hand, “You are not a terrible person, you never have been and you never will be. Your just a very concerned mother.”.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Bella sighed and leaned her head against Edward's chest. "I know we'll figure something out. And I know you're right... she already loves that baby. I was talking to her about it down at La Push the other day, and she just had this glowing admiration for it. She said she'd going to nameit Allie if it's a girl. And Edward Jacob if it's a boy. That's the same thing I was going to name her, when I thought she was a boy," she said into the cloth of his shirt. "I'm just afraid that the Volturi aren't going to stop and think this time. After having so much trouble from us? They might not question anymore. They might just act." This was rediculous, her ranting and raving like this. Nothing was going to happen to her family. The family she'd fought so hard to get. She hated that her stupid decisions were getting the Cullens in trouble all over again. She should have been quarantined years ago.

When she leaned her head against his chest Edward placed a kiss atop her her head then rested his lightly on top of hers. He smiled as he listened to Bella talk about their daughter and soon to be grandchild. "I promise we'll figure it out. I could see the admiration she had from the start. Both names will suit the baby perfectly."
Edward said before giving a small chuckle when she mentioned the time she thought Renesmee was going to be a boy, they'd all thought it for a while. When she started to mention the Volturi, Edward pulled her slightly closer to him, rubbing his hand over her back lovingly. "Caius will probably just want to act, but that's nothign new for him. I'm sure Aro's need to understand will give us a chance to explain once again. We'll get through this just like the last time. I'm won't allow them to take anyone away from you Bella" he told her. Having had three previous run ins with the Volturi edward wasn't just going to allow them to come to their home and do as they pleased, besides he figured Carlisle would buy them some time, he had a way with words.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
